“…I have a love affair with wine…” – Kendra
If you have followed us long enough you know I have a love affair with wine, which makes our recent foodventure the best drinkventure I’ve had in some time. 13.5% is a quaint “restabar” nestled in Hampden. While geared toward wine lovers, this establishment offers a light and unique menu to excite your taste buds and pair well with their very robust drink menu. We started with the carnitas street tacos which are as absolutely tasty as it sounds. My main course was a crab cake with cole slaw and let me tell you, I LOVE coleslaw (yes, this is true don’t make that face).
I paired my main course with a wine flight, which was a first for me. They were all dessert red wines and they were all winners in my book. I did order a Riesling white which unfortunately did not meet the mark for me. Not to mention the one glass was close to the monetary equivalent of the three glass flight I had. I have always been a red kind of woman and clearly, I need to stick to that.
Our waitress, Alyssa, was amazing. She was very one the ball and helped find some great wines for me to try. She was very engaging and attentive which always makes or breaks an experience. Overall, 13.5% delivers on what you go for ….. wine. I would give the overall experience a 3/5 forks.
“…I came for the Whiskey!” – Jon
I know 13.5% is a wine bar, but I came for the whiskey – it was Whiskey Wednesday after all! 13.5% has a decent whiskey selection. This week for Whiskey Wednesday, I went with the Pow-wow Botanical. Not as smooth as some whiskey’s I drank. In fact, it went down like molten lava. In other words, it was delicious!
If I had one suggestion, it would be that 13.5% make the Street Tacos an entree. The carnitas was AWESOME!
